Call for Inquiry: The Battle for Transparency in FICAC

The Leader of the Opposition, Inia Seruiratu, has expressed significant concern regarding allegations made by Francis Puleiwai, suggesting that there has been Ministerial interference in the FICAC (Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption). He supports Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka’s call for an investigation into these claims.

Seruiratu advocates for the establishment of an independent and impartial Commission of Inquiry to address the situation effectively. He believes this Commission should be formed following the current parliamentary session. It is proposed that the Commission comprise judicial officers, members of Parliament, and esteemed legal experts from the private sector, ensuring that none are under investigation or have conflicts of interest related to the issues at hand.

He emphasizes the seriousness of the allegations, stating that they undermine good governance and democracy. Seruiratu hopes that Puleiwai will be available to clarify her claims and that those accused have the opportunity to defend themselves. He remarks that Fiji stands at a critical juncture and that representatives of the people must diligently work to uncover the truth behind these allegations and restore public trust.
