The recent visit to the United States by Year 12 students from Queen Victoria School proved to be a transformative experience. Over the course of three weeks in California, from December 7 to December 30, 2024, students, along with their parents, guardians, and teachers, explored American culture and education.

Setoki Butukoro, one of the students, expressed his gratitude for the journey, emphasizing the unique opportunities and technological advancements he encountered. He found the experience motivational, prompting him to focus more intently on his studies in hopes of achieving his aspirations. Another student, Ioane Qalo, shared similar sentiments, noting the stark differences that America offers, particularly in terms of educational opportunities. Their meeting with a Senator at the California State Capitol inspired the students to dream bigger for themselves and their nation.

Team leader Ulai Butukoro highlighted the valuable support that made the trip possible, including contributions from the parents, teachers, the USA QVSOB Association, the Ministry of Education, the US Embassy, and community members in the United States. The students were given access to a variety of eminent universities, such as American River College, St. Mary’s College, Sonoma State University, and the renowned UC Berkeley, where they experienced the excitement of cutting-edge innovations at the robotics museum.

The group also visited the headquarters of major tech companies like Apple and Google, expanding their view of what is achievable in the tech industry. Overall, the trip proved to be immensely educational, broadening the students’ perspectives and encouraging them to think about their futures beyond their current confines.

The experience not only fostered a sense of community and support among the students but also highlighted the importance of international educational exposure. This trip could inspire future generations to pursue their studies abroad, enhancing their global awareness and potential career opportunities.

In summary, the trip to California serves as an encouraging reminder of the power of exploration in education, nurturing dreams, and opening doors to future success.
