The under-14 girls’ rugby team from Cakaudrove triumphed over Suva with a close score of 14-12 in an exciting quarter-final match held at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva on Thursday. Despite entering the competition as the underdogs, the Cakaudrove team defied expectations and secured their spot in the semi-finals, much to the delight of their supporters.
Coach Ilisoni Rokoua expressed pride in his team’s progress throughout the match and credited their success to the unwavering support from fans both locally and in Suva. “It was a tough game, but we managed it, and I would like to acknowledge the supporters of this team back at home and around Suva without whom we would have never made it,” Rokoua stated.
The team had dedicated significant time to training in preparation for the three-day tournament, facing their share of challenges leading up to the competition. Rokoua emphasized the importance of this experience for a geographically isolated team from Vanua Levu. “Coming from a geographically isolated place and performing at this stage is massive,” he noted, highlighting that this experience would be a cherished memory for the players.
Additionally, Cakaudrove had previously secured a victory against Ra with a score of 24-12 earlier in the tournament.
