In a spirited and commendable debut at the Fiji Sports Council under-20 7s rugby tournament, the Cakaudrove team faced a narrow defeat, losing 7-10 to Waqavuka in the quarter-finals. Head coach Noa Taveiwaka expressed pride in his players for their dedication and hard work, especially given the challenges they overcame to reach the tournament.
Taveiwaka acknowledged that many of the players were new to the competitive scene, but their enthusiasm and passion for rugby shone through during their matches. He expressed gratitude for their commitment, emphasizing the effort it took to prepare and travel for the tournament.
“Our preparations for this competition were demanding, and I sincerely thank the boys for their heart and love for the sport that drives them forward,” Taveiwaka said. He noted that while it may have been their first time in this specific tournament, the players were not new to rugby and showcased their skills well.
The coach also stressed the value of competitions like this one, which bridge the gap between Kaji rugby and more advanced tournaments like the Deans, offering young athletes essential on-field experience. He extended his gratitude to the Fiji Sports Council and Fiji Rugby for their ongoing support in nurturing emerging rugby talent.
This tournament serves as an important stepping stone for young players, and despite the loss, the Cakaudrove team’s hard work and determination indicate a bright future ahead in their rugby journey.
The hopeful message from this experience is clear: every match played is an opportunity for growth, and the passion displayed by the players reflects the potential they hold moving forward.
