Cabinet Shuffle Signals Change for Permanent Secretaries

Spread the love

A reshuffle of permanent secretaries may be on the horizon as reports suggest a potential Cabinet reshuffle later this month. Luke Rokovada, the chairman of the Public Service Commission (PSC), indicated that if there are changes among ministers, similar adjustments in the ranks of permanent secretaries are likely to follow.

He stated, “If there is a reshuffle of ministers, it’s likely there’ll be a consequential reshuffle of permanent secretaries. We’ll cross that bridge when we get there.” This shift comes in response to Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka’s concerns regarding uneven workload distribution among cabinet members.

The last reshuffle of permanent secretaries took place in October of the previous year. During that reshuffle, Selina Kuruleca was appointed to the Ministry of Justice, and Ratu Meli Nacuva took on the role of acting permanent secretary for Education, while still serving as the permanent secretary for Youth and Sports. Additionally, Dr. Rajieli Taga transitioned into the position of permanent secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister, after previously serving in an acting capacity.

Such organizational changes within the government can be seen as a strategic move to improve efficiency and align the skills of the leadership with their respective responsibilities. As these transitions unfold, there’s hope that they will enhance governance and service delivery for the public, ultimately leading to better outcomes.
