Cabinet Showdown: Will Lynda Tabuya Face Consequences?

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka did not provide a clear answer regarding potential actions against Minister for Women, Lynda Tabuya, for her recent insubordination. Tabuya had publicly advocated for the reintroduction of the death penalty as a deterrent against drug-related crimes in Fiji, an issue that was meant to be discussed internally within the Cabinet first.

Earlier this week, Rabuka indicated that the Cabinet would address Tabuya’s actions, which have sparked demands for her removal from her ministerial role due to her history of disregarding Cabinet protocols. In a recent interview, the Prime Minister expressed he preferred not to make assumptions about the situation.

“The issue of Lynda Tabuya is still pending,” Rabuka commented. “I have not been in Fiji for long enough to handle this matter. It was supposed to be addressed by the Cabinet yesterday.”

Rabuka emphasized that it is unfortunate for Tabuya to have publicly shared her opinions before the Cabinet had a chance to discuss the matter.
