The Fijian Cabinet has approved the recommendations from the iTaukei Administration Review Report, which were conducted between April and July 2024. This review focused on improving the efficiency and effectiveness of services provided to the iTaukei community, aiming to enhance the economic and social well-being of its people.
Minister for iTaukei Affairs, Ifereimi Vasu, expressed appreciation for the efforts made by consultancy teams led by Dr. Jone Baledrokadroka and Dr. Jone Lako during this extensive review process. The findings highlight the necessity of establishing better support systems for the iTaukei community, including the development of Provincial Economic Units.
The report identifies the iTaukei Administration, which includes the Great Council of Chiefs, the iTaukei Affairs Board, Provincial, Tikina, and Village Councils, as a vital framework in supporting sustainable development and resilience within the iTaukei community.
