Cabinet Drama: Will Lynda Tabuya Face Consequences?

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka avoided confirming whether any disciplinary action would be taken against Minister for Women, Lynda Tabuya, regarding her insubordination. Ms. Tabuya recently made public comments about the possibility of reinstating the death penalty as a deterrent for drug offenders using Fiji as a drug transit point, a matter that was meant to be initially addressed by the Cabinet.

Earlier this week, Mr. Rabuka mentioned to a local publication that the Cabinet would handle Ms. Tabuya’s actions. She is known for disregarding Cabinet protocols, prompting calls for her to be removed from her ministerial position.

In a recent interview, Mr. Rabuka expressed that he did not wish to make premature judgments about the situation. “The issue of Lynda Tabuya has not been dealt with,” he stated. He added that he hadn’t been in Fiji long enough to address the matter properly, noting that it was intended to be discussed by the Cabinet on Tuesday.

Mr. Rabuka emphasized that it was unfortunate for Ms. Tabuya to express her opinions publicly prior to any Cabinet discussions.
