Cabinet Conundrum: Will Lynda Tabuya Face Consequences?

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has dodged questions regarding potential consequences for Minister for Women, Lynda Tabuya, who publicly suggested reinstating the death penalty as a deterrent for drug trafficking. This matter, Rabuka emphasized, should have been initially addressed by the Cabinet.

Earlier in the week, Rabuka indicated that the Cabinet would handle the situation concerning Tabuya’s statements. He noted her history of disregarding Cabinet protocols has led to growing calls for her dismissal from her ministerial position.

In a recent interview, Rabuka stated that he prefers not to speculate on the matter. “The issue of Lynda Tabuya has not been resolved,” he commented. He also mentioned, “I have not been in Fiji long enough to address the issue. It should have been discussed by the Cabinet yesterday.”

Rabuka expressed regret that Tabuya publicly shared her opinions before the Cabinet had a chance to deliberate on the topic.
