Cabinet Controversy: Will Lynda Tabuya Face Consequences?

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has sidestepped questions regarding potential repercussions for Minister for Women, Lynda Tabuya, following her insubordinate remarks. Ms. Tabuya had suggested the reintroduction of the death penalty to deter drug trafficking, an issue that ideally should have been addressed within the Cabinet first.

Earlier this week, Rabuka indicated that the Cabinet would handle Ms. Tabuya’s actions. She has gained a reputation for breaching Cabinet protocols, leading to demands for her removal from her ministerial role.

In a recent interview, Rabuka stated that he would not rush to conclusions about the matter. “The issue of Lynda Tabuya has not been dealt with,” he mentioned. “I have not been in Fiji long enough to address the issue. It was supposed to be handled by the Cabinet yesterday.”

Rabuka expressed regret that Ms. Tabuya chose to voice her opinions publicly before the Cabinet could convene for discussions.
