Cabinet Chaos: Will Lynda Tabuya Face Consequences?

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka avoided addressing whether any disciplinary measures will be taken against Minister for Women, Lynda Tabuya, following her controversial statements on reinstating the death penalty for drug offenders in Fiji. This topic, which involves the use of Fiji as a transit point for illegal drugs, was intended to be discussed internally by the Cabinet before being made public.

Earlier in the week, Rabuka mentioned that Tabuya’s actions would be addressed by the Cabinet. However, her tendency to bypass Cabinet protocols has led to increasing demands for her removal from the ministerial role. In a recent interview, Rabuka stated that he preferred not to make any premature judgments regarding the matter.

“The issue of Lynda Tabuya remains unresolved,” he commented, adding that he had not been in Fiji long enough to fully address the situation and that it was expected to be handled by the Cabinet soon. Rabuka expressed regret that Tabuya had shared her opinions publicly before any Cabinet discussions had taken place.
