Eighteen individuals received medical treatment at Lautoka Aspen Hospital following a bus accident involving a four-wheel drive vehicle in Lautoka yesterday afternoon. The collision occurred around 2:45 PM on King’s Road, near Vitogo.
According to Constable Wame Bautolu, the four-wheel drive vehicle had just pulled out from Vitogo Road when it collided with a Goundar Shipping bus that was en route from Lautoka to Ba. Due to the force of the crash, the bus overturned and ended up on its side, landing on top of the oncoming four-wheel drive vehicle.
Emergency services responded promptly to the scene. The driver of the four-wheel drive was trapped inside the vehicle and required assistance from the National Fire Authority officers to be rescued. The bus driver, who is from Saweni, suffered serious injuries but is now reported to be in stable condition.
Family member Aarish Rahman, along with his father, comforted their uncle, Abdul Khalik Rahman, who was also a passenger on the bus. Aarish shared that their uncle suffered four broken ribs and will undergo a CT scan before being admitted to the hospital.
As of last night, a significant police presence was visible at the emergency area, and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
