Eighteen individuals received medical treatment at Lautoka Aspen Hospital following a bus accident in Lautoka yesterday afternoon. The collision occurred around 2:45 PM on King’s Road in Vitogo, when a four-wheel drive vehicle pulled out from Vitogo Road and struck the Goundar Shipping bus, which was en route from Lautoka to Ba.
Due to the force of the impact, the bus overturned, ultimately landing on its side and making contact with the oncoming four-wheel drive vehicle. Fortunately, emergency responders from the National Fire Authority were able to rescue the driver of the four-wheel drive, who had become trapped inside.
The bus driver, a resident of Saweni, suffered serious injuries but is currently in stable condition. One passenger, Abdul Khalik Rahman, was reported to have four broken ribs and is set to undergo a CT scan to assess his injuries further, as shared by family member Aarish Rahman outside the hospital.
At the time of reporting, there was a heavy police presence at the scene as investigations into the circumstances of the incident were ongoing.
Despite the seriousness of the incident, it is encouraging to note that all patients are receiving the necessary medical attention, and responders acted promptly to ensure the safety and care of those involved.
