Bula Boys Triumph Over Solomons in World Cup Qualifier Showdown

The Digicel Fiji Bula Boys secured a 1-0 victory over the Solomon Islands during their opening match in the FIFA World Cup 26 Oceania qualifiers at HFC Stadium in Suva on Thursday night. Captain Roy Krishna scored the decisive goal in the 13th minute, giving the team a vital boost in their quest for World Cup qualification.

Following the match, Krishna praised his team’s performance and recognized the challenges posed by the Solomon Islands. He noted, “We know that whenever we play Solomon, it’s going to be a physical game, but I think the red card changed the dynamics.” He suggested that the outcome might have been different had both teams remained at full strength.

The red card was issued to Aporosa Yada for a dangerous foul in the 38th minute, a decision that elicited mixed reactions from the enthusiastic crowd. Despite this, Krishna emphasized that his team maintained the mentality of playing as if both teams had 11 players on the field, which he credited for their success.

“We defended as a team and as a brotherhood, and achieving a clean sheet is most important,” he added. Krishna expressed excitement for the upcoming matches against New Caledonia and Papua New Guinea.

He also appreciated the support from fans, referring to them as the “12th man” who significantly uplifted the team’s morale. “I’m just so grateful they came out to support us, and as I said, the 12th man pushed us through tonight.”
