The team is now turning its attention to the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers next month, according to Digicel Bula Boys captain Roy Krishna.
Despite experiencing a dip in performance, highlighted by a 1-1 draw against Hong Kong-China in the final match of the Tri-Nations Friendlies series on Sunday, Krishna stated that there is still significant preparation needed before the main qualifiers commence.
He expressed pride in the team’s efforts against Hong Kong and underscored the critical nature of the World Cup Qualification matches scheduled for the next window. Krishna remains optimistic that the players will be fit, free from injuries, and ready to return stronger for the qualifiers.
On a personal note, Krishna mentioned the long trip back to India before preparing for the new season.
“Our next major challenge is the World Cup Qualification next month,” Krishna said. “We really need to begin our preparations immediately since that is the more important focus. I hope these boys will be fit, injury-free, and come back stronger.”
Head coach Rob Sherman shared a positive outlook, noting that the team is well-positioned to build upon the experiences gained from the friendly matches.
The team is eager to take on the Solomon Islands in their opening pool match in October.
The World Cup Qualifiers will feature Group A matches held at HFC Bank in Suva on October 10, showcasing exciting games between Solomon Islands and Fiji, along with New Caledonia facing Papua New Guinea.
In Port Vila, Group B matches will include New Zealand against Tahiti on October 11, and Vanuatu going up against the winner of Round One on October 12.
