Building Trust in Coalition Politics: A Tribute to Leadership

National Federation Party Leader Professor Biman Prasad has expressed his appreciation for Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, acknowledging his friendship and fairness. Speaking at the Party Convention in Sigatoka, Professor Prasad highlighted the Prime Minister’s consistent support during his personal challenges within the government.

“This type of leadership is promising for the future of both our government and our nation as we strive to enhance our governance and the nation at large,” he stated. He emphasized the significance of the solidarity and support that has characterized their political partnership long before they assumed office, indicating he believes it will continue for years to come.

Professor Prasad recognized the complexities of working within a coalition and noted that disagreements exist among the three parties, sometimes expressed publicly. “We anticipate this. We all engage in politics for various reasons, representing diverse groups with differing priorities. However, even amid public disagreements, we respect one another. We are all democrats, unafraid to share our perspectives with each other and the public. As mature individuals, we can have differing opinions while maintaining mutual respect,” he said.

He concluded by stating that while they may not always achieve their desired outcomes, it is crucial to respect the views of coalition partners. “Respect fosters trust. After years of governance marked by distrust, we are working to restore trust in our nation,” Professor Prasad remarked.
