National Federation Party Leader Professor Biman Prasad has expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka for his friendship and sense of fairness. During his address at the Party Convention in Sigatoka today, Prof Prasad highlighted the continuous support he has received from the Prime Minister, especially during personal challenges faced while in government.
“This type of leadership is promising for the future of both our Government and our country as we strive to improve our governance,” he stated. Prof Prasad acknowledged the solidarity and political partnership that has existed since before they assumed office, noting that he believes it will last for a long time.
He also recognized the challenges of collaborating within a Coalition government, admitting that there are disagreements among the three parties, some of which have become public. “We expect that,” he mentioned. “We are involved in politics for various reasons and represent distinct groups with differing priorities. Even when we disagree publicly, there is mutual respect among us as democrats. We openly express our views to each other and to the people. Like mature individuals, we can have differing opinions while maintaining respect.”
“We do not always get our way. However, when you are in politics and part of a Coalition Government, you must always honor your partners and their perspectives. Respect is the foundation of trust. After years of a government that offered no trust, we are now working to rebuild it in our nation,” Prof Prasad concluded.
