Bua Province Achieves Majority in Traditional Leadership Positions

More than 80 percent of traditional leadership positions in Bua have been filled. This was confirmed by Bua Provincial Council chairman Sitiveni Lalibuli during an interview this week.

Mr. Lalibuli stated that 87 percent of the turaga ni mataqali positions, 84 percent of the turaga ni yavusa positions, and 80 percent of the turaga na taukei positions have been confirmed. He expressed his happiness that these roles have been filled ahead of the provincial council meeting this month.

“I think it will be a great meeting with productive discussions by members of the council,” said Mr. Lalibuli. “Given the fact that we have confirmed most of the traditional roles in the province since last week.”

Mr. Lalibuli also showed his anticipation for the installation of the Turaga na Tui Bua as the next holder of the title was confirmed last week by the Native Land Commission, widely known as the Veitarogi Vanua. “We are very happy for the confirmation of the chiefly title and we’re looking forward to his installation.”

The Bua Provincial Council meeting will be held on March 17 and 18.
