Post Fiji announced the renewal of its agreement with BSP Bank to continue offering rural banking services. Currently, BSP Bank provides banking services at 36 post office locations across Fiji.
Isaac Mow, the CEO of Post Fiji, praised the long-standing partnership and the company’s historical connection to banking. He noted that Post Fiji has a rich banking heritage, originating with the post savings bank, which later evolved into the National Bank of Fiji, then Colonial, and now BSP.
Mow expressed enthusiasm about continuing to work with BSP to deliver banking services to Fiji’s remote areas. The renewed agreement follows a recent tri-party accord signed among Post Fiji, BSP Bank, and the Ministry of Finance, intended to enhance financial access in rural communities.
Rajeshwar Singh, acting country head of BSP Bank, highlighted Post Fiji’s extensive infrastructure, which enables service delivery to customers in rural and isolated regions. He explained that rural customers can perform various banking transactions, including deposits, cash withdrawals up to $500 daily, PIN resets for debit cards, and account balance inquiries. Additionally, they can apply for new bank accounts with BSP.
Singh pointed out that rural customers can also utilize BSP’s digital banking services, where over 90 percent of transactions take place. He emphasized that this partnership, supported by the government, positions Post Fiji as a reliable agent in extending banking services to previously unbanked populations, thereby fostering economic activity in rural areas and benefitting Fiji overall.
He expressed optimism about the positive impacts of this collaboration on communities and looked forward to future innovations in service expansion.
