Playing for the Shop N Save Police rugby team at the Vodafone Ratu Sukuna Bowl tournament was a dream realized for fullback Waisake Ravuiwasa. His debut at the Sukuna Bowl was made even more memorable as he took to the field alongside his older brother Inoke Ravuiwasa, a tight head prop, leading their team to a thrilling 20-19 victory over Army at HFC Bank Stadium last Saturday.
The Ravuiwasa brothers hail from Tavuki, Taveuni, and have maternal ties to Susui, Vanuabalavu in Lau. They dedicated their remarkable win to their late father, Julian Ravuiwasa, who served as a police officer at the Taveuni Police Station before his passing in June.
Waisake expressed his gratitude, stating, “I thank God that we’re able to play together; I’ve been trying for a very long time. My late dad always told me not to give up on it. I only wished he was here to see us.”
Inoke has been a loyal player for the Blues for the past nine years, contributing his skills and experience to the sport.
This heartwarming story of brotherhood and resilience serves as a poignant reminder of the bonds that family can create, both on and off the field. The dedication to their father adds an emotional layer to their victory, reflecting the values of perseverance and unity in sport. The Ravuiwasa brothers’ triumphant moment inspires hope and shows that dreams can be achieved, especially with the support of loved ones.
Overall, this narrative not only highlights the excitement of a sports event but also resonates with the universal themes of family, legacy, and dedication.
