Fiji Beach Soccer Captain and goalkeeper Sanaila Waqanicakau is making a significant move this season as he reunites with his younger sibling, Junior Balbir Singh, at Tavua FC. Waqanicakau has secured his release from Nasinu during the preseason transfer window to join Singh, who played a pivotal role in helping Tavua gain promotion to the top league last year.
This marks a remarkable return for the brothers, who last played together five seasons ago for their hometown club, Ba. Their family also boasts another talented athlete, Saula Waqa, who plays for Lautoka, further emphasizing the sporting legacy within their family.
Waqanicakau is known not just for his goalkeeping skills but also has a history as a proven striker. His extensive experience includes representing Fiji at the U20 level, as well as playing for notable clubs such as Rewa, Dreketi, and Suva. His addition to Tavua’s squad is expected to enhance the team’s depth significantly. Currently, Waqanicakau is also working with the Fiji Football Association as a Goalkeeping Coach, showcasing his dedication to the sport even beyond his own playing career.
The reunion of the Waqanicakau brothers is heartening news for fans and represents a strong familial bond and shared goal in their football journey. With Waqanicakau’s expertise and leadership, Tavua aims for an exciting season ahead, filled with hope and potential success in competitions.
