Fiji Beach Soccer Captain and goalkeeper Sanaila Waqanicakau is set to reunite with his younger brother, Junior Balbir Singh, this season as he moves to Tavua FC from Nasinu. This transfer, finalized during the preseason, allows Waqanicakau to play alongside Singh, who was instrumental in Tavua’s successful promotion to the top league last year.
The brothers last played together five seasons ago for their hometown club, Ba, alongside their other sibling, Saula Waqa, who now plays as a striker for Lautoka. This familial connection highlights the strong athletic tradition within their family.
Waqanicakau brings a wealth of experience to Tavua, not only as a goalkeeper but also with a history of playing as a striker. His past involvement with Fiji’s U20 team and various clubs, such as Rewa, Dreketi, and Suva, enhances Tavua’s depth significantly. Additionally, he is currently serving as a Goalkeeping Coach for the Fiji Football Association, emphasizing his commitment to developing future talent in the sport.
This reunion is particularly encouraging for fans, symbolizing a strong family bond and shared aspirations as they embark on this new chapter in their football journey. With Waqanicakau’s leadership and skill, Tavua FC is looking forward to a promising season ahead, filled with hope for success in upcoming competitions. The combined efforts of the Waqanicakau brothers on the field are anticipated to heighten the excitement for both the team and its supporters.
