The Chinese Embassy recently hosted a welcoming reception for the Guadong Delegation and the Bright Journey Medical Team, who have been in Fiji for two days performing cataract surgeries at the CWM Eye Clinic.

Chinese Ambassador to Fiji, Zhou Jian, underscored the significance of the cooperative relationship between Guadong, China, and Fiji, emphasizing its positive impact on advancements in infrastructure, healthcare, and education in Fiji.

Since establishing a sister-city relationship in 2011, Guadong and Suva have engaged in fruitful collaborations, including projects like the renovations of the Suva Civic Center and the upgrades at Marist Brothers High School. The Ambassador remarked on the ongoing challenges posed by cataracts, which impair the ability of many Fijians to support their families, but noted the Bright Medical Team’s efforts in alleviating this issue.

Since 2013, the Bright Medical Teams have been providing free eye surgeries in Fiji and other Pacific Island nations, assisting over 200 patients and earning the moniker “Angel of Light” among local communities.

Hung Wenyong, a member of the Bright Medical Team, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to treat 50 patients during their visit, with 47 of them suffering from cataracts. He highlighted that their trip not only focused on providing medical care but also aimed to strengthen the diplomatic ties between Fiji and China.

Overall, the enduring relationship between China and Fiji continues to yield positive outcomes, ushering in significant advancements for the Fijian economy, highlighting a commitment to mutual growth and support.

This collaboration signifies hope for improved healthcare access in Fiji, showcasing the importance of international partnerships in addressing local challenges.
