Chinese President Xi Jinping recently published an article titled “China-Peru Friendship: Setting Sail Toward an Even Brighter Future,” emphasizing the robust cultural and economic connections between China and Peru.
In the article, Xi refers to Peru as a “neighbor across the Pacific” and underscores the deep mutual respect that exists due to shared ancient values. He highlights the importance of economic cooperation, particularly focusing on the Chancay Port, a prominent initiative under the Belt and Road Initiative. This project aims to enhance shipping efficiency and reduce costs, ultimately creating jobs and generating revenue for Peru. Xi describes the port as a “new gateway” that could significantly enhance the development and integration of Latin America with Asia.
Culturally, Xi draws attention to the similarities between the ancient Chinese and Inca civilizations, stating, “Our minds find common ground and our hearts resonate.” He mentions various cultural exchange initiatives and exhibitions designed to foster mutual understanding.
Looking towards the future, Xi expresses a commitment to deeper cooperation, stating, “China is ready to work hand in hand with our Peruvian friends… to steer the ship of our friendship toward an even brighter future.” He also reiterates China’s support for Peru’s leadership role within APEC and emphasizes the importance of fostering an inclusive and open economy in the Asia-Pacific region.
This collaboration not only signifies a strengthening of bilateral relations but also heralds opportunities for economic growth and cultural enrichment for both nations. With such positive engagements, there is hope for a thriving partnership that benefits the peoples of China and Peru alike.
