The Grand Pacific Hotel was vibrant last Thursday as the Chinese Embassy hosted the “China Guizhou Bridge Construction Art Photography Exhibition” to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China.
The event welcomed government ministers, members of the diplomatic community, local Chinese leaders, and other guests.
In his keynote speech, Chinese Ambassador to Fiji Zhou Jian discussed Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka’s recent state visit to China, where he traveled from the mountainous southwest to the coastal east and from remote villages to the capital, Beijing. This journey allowed him to observe China’s transformation from poverty to prosperity, marking “a new chapter in China-Fiji relations.”
Ambassador Zhou emphasized the shared values of peace between China and Fiji, highlighting the need for collaboration to tackle global challenges. He advocated for replacing division with unity, confrontation with cooperation, and a zero-sum mindset with win-win partnerships, all in the interest of fostering stability in a turbulent world.
The exhibition featured remarkable photographs showcasing Guizhou’s innovative bridge construction, which symbolizes not only engineering excellence but also a narrative of progress and connectivity.
“These bridges exemplify the spirit of cooperation that characterizes China-Fiji relations,” Ambassador Zhou stated.
He further noted that the relationship between China and Fiji has grown over the years through initiatives like Chinese government scholarships and various aid projects that have strengthened their bilateral ties.
“Together, we can continue to build a brighter future for both our nations and their people,” he concluded.
