The Chinese Embassy in Fiji recently held a welcoming reception for the Guadong Delegation and the Bright Journey Medical Team, who have been in the country for two days providing cataract treatments at the CWM Eye Clinic.
Chinese Ambassador to Fiji, Zhou Jian, emphasized the significance of the partnership between Guadong, China, and Fiji, noting that this relationship has facilitated developments in various areas including infrastructure, healthcare, and education.
Ambassador Zhou highlighted the sister-city relationship established between Guadong and Suva in 2011, which has led to productive collaborations. Notable projects funded by Guadong include the renovation of the Suva Civic Center and the modernization of Marist Brothers High School.
The ambassador also underscored the ongoing issue of cataracts affecting many Fijians and commended the Bright Medical Team for their efforts in mitigating this problem. Since 2013, the Bright Medical Teams have been traveling to Fiji and other Pacific nations to offer free cataract surgeries, restoring sight to over 200 patients and earning the title “Angel of Light” from the community.
Hung Wenyong, a member of the Bright Medical Team, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to treat 50 patients in Fiji, 47 of whom had cataracts. He mentioned that their mission was not only to provide medical assistance but also to enhance the ties between Fiji and China.
The relationship between China and Fiji continues to yield positive outcomes, paving the way for substantial advancements in the Fijian economy and social services.
This collaboration serves as a reminder of the positive impact international partnerships can have on local communities, particularly in improving health outcomes and educational resources.
In summary, the reception highlighted the fruitful cooperation between China and Fiji and the humanitarian efforts of the Bright Medical Team in addressing cataract issues in the region, showcasing the potential benefits of such international relationships.
