Andrea Joseva had a fortunate escape from potential injury when he crossed a bridge in Vunayasi, Nadi, just moments before it collapsed. After returning from his farmhouse on Monday, Andrea noted that water levels had begun to rise, nearly reaching the bridge’s surface. He expressed gratitude that his vehicle made it across safely.

Upon returning home, Andrea discovered the bridge had given way and the road was closed. In a separate incident involving a family in a vehicle, four members narrowly avoided serious injury when their car fell into the river as the bridge collapsed. Ben Latu, who witnessed the event while returning from work, assisted the family as they swam to safety. He mentioned that his cousin bravely jumped in to help the driver escape the submerged car, ensuring they reached the riverbank.

The bridge, constructed in 1958, is reportedly built by the Fiji Sugar Corporation, though details remain uncertain.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of infrastructure maintenance and safety, emphasizing the need for regular assessments to prevent such occurrences in the future. Thankfully, both Andrea and the family were unharmed, showcasing the resilience and courage of the community in the face of unexpected challenges.
