“Breaking Barriers: The Fight Against Drugs Unveiled”

Completely eradicating drugs may be impossible, but it is manageable, says Home Affairs Minister Pio Tikoduadua.

Speaking on The Lens@177, Mr. Tikoduadua stated that this is an issue that existed before his tenure and will continue long after. He emphasized the need for the Government to establish a system that prevents exploitation and ensures a strong position in the fight against drugs.

“Our main goal as Fijians is to educate and discourage drug consumption,” he said. “This is the only achievable outcome. We cannot stop drug production in places like South America, North America, or Asia, nor can we monitor all incoming boats. Some drugs will inevitably get through.”

He pointed out that even countries with advanced technology, like the United States, struggle with controlling drug cargo. With Fiji surrounded by a porous ocean, the challenge is significant.

Mr. Tikoduadua stressed the importance of educating Fijians to “say no to drugs” and avoid consumption.
