Ruci Vukialau is set to break barriers in a male-dominated industry after graduating from Fiji National University in Nasinu with a Certificate III in Wall and Floor Tiling. At just 19 years old, Vukialau is ready to pursue her dream job following 12 weeks of training with the Australia Pacific Training Coalition (APTC).

Her interest in tiling developed while observing her father during home repairs and upgrades. However, she faced challenges during her training, particularly due to the predominance of male classmates. Vukialau admitted that there were moments when she struggled to communicate in class and often chose to remain quiet while working.

Despite these difficulties, she remained determined to succeed in her career. “There were times it was exhausting, but I had a supportive group encouraging me to continue my studies. My faith also kept me motivated to finish the course,” she stated.

As she gets ready to enter the workforce, Vukialau is aware of the demands that come with the job, including long hours and the need for flexibility, factors that can be challenging for anyone balancing family and personal commitments.
