Eleni Seniloli has made a remarkable transformation in her career by shifting her focus from accounting to serving as a military officer. Recently, she proudly became the first female military officer in her family during a graduation ceremony at the RFMF Forces Training Group camp in Nasinu.
Standing firmly alongside her fellow graduates, Ms. Seniloli completed an intense 18-month training that tested her resilience and determination. A former deputy head girl at Adi Cakobau School, she firmly believes that joining the military was the right decision despite initial skepticism from many of her peers and family members.
Reflecting on her journey, she expressed deep emotions about the discouragement she faced when she chose to enlist in the RFMF. Instead of letting these doubts deter her, she used them as motivation, stating, “With words of discouragement at the forefront of it all, I took them as a coping mechanism to finish the race.” Throughout her training, her faith provided her with daily inspiration to persevere.
Ms. Seniloli shared her challenges of adapting from an all-girls school to a male-dominated environment. Her discipline and determination led her to carve out a place for herself among her peers. She acknowledges that not many young girls aspire to join the military, but she is proud of her choice to serve her country with dignity.
Encouraging other young women, she advocates for setting personal goals and resisting societal pressures that may seek to define their paths. Looking forward, Ms. Seniloli is eager to fulfill her duties within the military, recognizing that while it may not be easy, the support from her family and friends will be crucial in navigating this journey.
She concluded with gratitude, saying, “I thank God for directing my path because it’s going to be an interesting journey.”
This inspiring story of courage and determination serves as a beacon of empowerment for many young women contemplating their future paths. Ms. Seniloli exemplifies the idea that with faith, resilience, and support, one can carve out their destiny regardless of conventional expectations.
