Eleni Seniloli has made a significant career shift from aspiring accountant to military officer, becoming a trailblazer as the first female military officer in her family. This milestone was celebrated during the graduation parade at the RFMF Forces Training Group camp in Nasinu.
Joining her fellow new officers, Ms. Seniloli proudly stood tall after successfully completing an intense 18-month training program. A former deputy head girl at Adi Cakobau School, her decision to pursue a military career was met with skepticism from many of her peers and family, but she remained resolute.
Reflecting on the challenges she faced, Ms. Seniloli shared that discouraging words from those around her fueled her determination to succeed. “I took them as a coping mechanism to finish the race,” she explained. Her greatest source of strength throughout the demanding training was her faith, providing her with daily inspiration.
Having spent five years in an all-girls institution, she found it challenging to adapt to a male-dominated environment. However, through discipline and tenacity, she has carved out a place for herself. Ms. Seniloli encourages young women to set their own goals and resist societal pressure regarding their career choices.
Looking ahead, she aspires to be an effective member of the military and acknowledges the difficulties that lie ahead. “I know it’s not going to be easy, but with the support system from home and my peers, I’m able to execute it well,” she stated. Grateful for the guidance she feels from God, Ms. Seniloli looks forward to this “interesting journey” in her service to the nation.
This inspiring story illustrates the power of resilience and the importance of following one’s dreams despite societal challenges. Ms. Seniloli not only breaks down barriers for women in the military but also serves as a motivational figure for young girls considering their future careers.
