Police Constable Sadamma from the Labasa Police Station recently emphasized the ability of women to successfully balance multiple roles, including that of a police officer, mother, and wife. This statement arose after she and 37 other police personnel from the Northern Division were honored with Long Service and Good Conduct medals at a ceremony held at the Labasa Civic Centre, officiated by Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew.
With two decades of dedicated service in the Fiji Police Force, PC Sadamma has navigated through various challenges, particularly in a historically male-dominated environment. Reflecting on her career, she acknowledged the initial difficulties but credited the unwavering support from her family and understanding superiors for helping her thrive in her role. “It wasn’t easy at first,” she noted, “but I was able to perform my duties well with their support.”
Currently serving in the Sexual Offence Unit, PC Sadamma focuses on cases involving children and women, a role she finds fulfilling and important. “I chose to become a Policewoman because I wanted to help others, especially women and children,” she shared passionately, underlining her commitment to aiding vulnerable communities.
Encouraging young women to pursue careers in law enforcement, PC Sadamma emphasized the importance of resilience and hard work. “Nothing comes easy in life; everyone needs to either work hard or smart to have a fulfilling career,” she stated. Her journey showcases the potential for women to succeed in challenging roles, reinforcing the broader narrative of gender equality in policing.
This recognition of PC Sadamma’s contributions not only highlights her personal achievements but also signifies a positive shift towards greater gender equality within law enforcement. It serves as an inspiration for future generations, illustrating that with determination and support, women can overcome obstacles and thrive in diverse fields.
