Eleni Seniloli has made a significant career change, transitioning from her aspiration of becoming an accountant to embracing a role as a military officer. Yesterday, she proudly became the first female military officer in her family during a graduation parade held at the RFMF Forces Training Group camp in Nasinu.
Standing alongside her fellow officers, Seniloli reflected on the challenging 18-month journey through rigorous training. A former deputy head girl at Adi Cakobau School, she was resolute in her decision to join the military, despite facing skepticism from many peers and family members when she first announced her intentions to enlist in the RFMF.
“Despite receiving discouraging words, I used them as motivation to persevere,” Seniloli recounted. She credited her faith, particularly the word of God, as a source of daily inspiration throughout her training.
Having spent five years at an all-girls school, she encountered challenges in adjusting to a male-dominated environment. However, her discipline and determination helped her rise through the ranks, ultimately securing her position. Seniloli emphasized that few young girls consider a career in the military, but she believes her choice to serve her country with dignity is both a personal and empowering decision.
She encourages young women to set ambitious goals for themselves and to resist societal pressures that may seek to dictate their paths. Looking ahead, Seniloli is optimistic about her future service and recognizes the importance of support from her family and peers.
“I know it’s not going to be easy, but with the support system from home and my peers, I’m ready to face the challenges,” she stated. “I thank God for guiding my journey; it’s going to be an intriguing adventure.”
This story illustrates the resilience of women pursuing non-traditional careers and serves as an inspiration for young girls everywhere. Emphasizing personal agency in the face of adversities, Seniloli’s journey exemplifies the power of determination and faith in realizing one’s dreams.
