Police Constable (PC) Sadamma from the Labasa Police Station has shared her empowering perspective on the ability of women to flourish in diverse roles, including that of a police officer, mother, and wife. Her remarks followed the recent award of Long Service and Good Conduct medals to her and 37 other police personnel from the Northern Division during a ceremony led by Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew at the Labasa Civic Centre.
With a commendable 20-year career in the Fiji Police Force, PC Sadamma has gained experience across various roles, having worked at notable stations such as Totogo in Suva and Lautoka. “It wasn’t easy at first to navigate a male-dominated environment, but the unwavering support of my family and understanding superiors allowed me to fulfill my responsibilities effectively,” said the mother of three, highlighting her challenging but rewarding journey.
Currently, Sadamma is stationed in the Sexual Offence Unit, where she primarily deals with sensitive issues involving children and women. “I opted to become a Policewoman because my desire was to aid others, particularly vulnerable populations like women and children,” she stated, expressing the fulfillment that her work brings.
PC Sadamma also extended encouragement to young women who aspire to pursue careers in law enforcement. “Nothing comes easy in life. It requires either hard work or smart strategies to build a satisfying career,” she emphasized, demonstrating her belief in resilience as a cornerstone of success.
Her journey reflects a broader narrative of hope and determination for women in policing and beyond, reinforcing the message that challenges can be overcome with support and perseverance. The recognition awarded not only underscores her personal commitment but signals progress for greater gender equality within law enforcement. This inspiring tale serves to motivate future generations of women to pursue their passions and break barriers in their chosen fields.
