Police Constable Sadamma from the Labasa Police Station emphasizes that women are more than capable of juggling the roles of police officer, wife, and mother. This affirmation follows her recognition, along with 37 other officers from the Northern Division, with Long Service and Good Conduct medals during a ceremony at the Labasa Civic Centre, presented by Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew.
With two decades of dedicated service in the Fiji Police Force, PC Sadamma’s experience spans multiple stations, including Totogo Police Station in Suva and Lautoka Police Station. Despite initially facing challenges in a male-dominated environment, she credits her success to the unwavering support from her family and understanding superiors. “It wasn’t easy at first, but with their support, I managed to navigate my responsibilities effectively,” she stated.
Now serving in the Sexual Offence Unit, she focuses on sensitive cases involving children and women, a role that brings her great satisfaction. “I chose to become a Policewoman because I wanted to help others, especially women and children,” she shared, reflecting on her passion for aiding vulnerable communities.
Encouraging young women who aspire to join the Fiji Police Force, PC Sadamma emphasizes the importance of hard work and resilience. “Nothing comes easy in life; everyone must either work hard or smart to have a fulfilling career,” she advised, highlighting that determination can lead to success.
Her journey not only showcases her personal achievements but also signifies the broader movement toward gender equality in law enforcement. PC Sadamma’s story serves as an inspiration, encouraging future generations of women to pursue their dreams and break barriers in any field they choose. This message of hope and perseverance reinforces the idea that with dedication and support, it’s possible for women to thrive in diverse and challenging roles.
