A woman is more than capable of balancing the roles of a police officer, wife, and mother, according to Police Constable (PC) Sadamma from the Labasa Police Station. Her comments came after she was awarded a Long Service and Good Conduct medal, along with 37 other police personnel from the Northern Division, during a ceremony held at the Labasa Civic Centre on Friday. The medals were presented by Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew.

Having served in the Fiji Police Force for 20 years, PC Sadamma’s journey has taken her through various stations, including Totogo Police Station in Suva and Lautoka Police Station. Reflecting on her experience, Sadamma, a mother of three, noted the challenges of working in a male-dominated environment.
“Initially, it was tough, but the support from my family and understanding superiors made it easier for me to perform my duties effectively,” she stated.

Currently stationed in the Sexual Offence Unit, she often deals with matters concerning children and women, a role she finds deeply fulfilling. “I am in the right field for me, where I continue to learn a lot,” she expressed. Driven by a desire to help others, particularly women and children, Sadamma encouraged young women aspiring to join the Fiji Police Force to pursue their dreams.

“Nothing comes easy in life; everyone must either work hard or smart to have a fulfilling career,” she said. “Today, I stand as a proud police officer, mother, and wife, demonstrating that it is possible to juggle multiple roles successfully.”
