Ubayd Haider, a late featherweight boxer, had fallen ill just two days before his final fight in Nadi but still chose to compete. This information was shared by his older brother, Sebastian Singh, during Haider’s funeral service held in Suva. Despite being unwell, Haider demonstrated immense determination, fighting for nine grueling rounds in the ring.

He noted that his brother had initially requested to be excused from the match due to his health but felt compelled to participate. Singh described Haider as a true warrior, emphasizing his bravery and commitment to the sport.

Singh also acknowledged the outpouring of support from the government, friends, and fellow Fijians during this difficult time, expressing gratitude for their prayers and kindness. Haider, who passed away at the age of 25 after 16 days in the hospital due to severe head injuries, was remembered fondly for the legacy he left behind. He was interred at the Raralevu Cemetery in Nausori, leaving behind his wife, Helen, and their two young sons.
