Two members of the Commission of Inquiry investigating the tragic death of boxer Ubayed Haider, previously known as Nathan Singh, have stepped down, signaling shifts within the inquiry process. The departures include former Land Force Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, Pita Driti, and Adi Narayan, the chairman of the Boxing Commission of Fiji.

Minister of Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru, confirmed the resignations, explaining that Narayan excused himself to maintain the integrity of the investigation, stating the importance of a transparent and independent process. Narayan mentioned that Driti also stepped down to avoid any conflicts of interest.

Saukuru is in the process of finalizing the third member for the Commission. He noted that Narayan was removed due to his current role with the Boxing Commission, which must also be evaluated by the inquiry team. The commission is set to reconvene on Friday to continue interviews.

At present, Philip Eneriko, the director of Youth and Sports, and Edwin Wainiqolo, a Lautoka-based lawyer, form part of the inquiry team. Narayan indicated that Wainiqolo will lead the investigation, emphasizing that he will refrain from further comments on the matter.

Haider tragically collapsed following his match for the IBO Asia Pacific featherweight title on October 26 and later succumbed to injuries after undergoing surgery and spending time in a coma. He was laid to rest at Raralevu Cemetery in Tailevu on November 12.

In the boxing sphere, Narayan shared that several promoters have renewed their licenses for the upcoming year. Bluewater Boxing Promotions will kick off their schedule with multiple events planned, with announcements expected in December from promoter Samir Khan, who is collaborating with a new partner for future events. This news brings a sense of continuity and optimism to the boxing community following the recent unfortunate events.

In summary, the resignation of the two commission members highlights the commitment to a transparent inquiry, while the boxing community is looking forward to future events and promotions, demonstrating resilience and determination to move forward.
