Heavy security protocols will be implemented for the upcoming South Pacific Boxing Promotion event scheduled for next month, as stated by promoter Freddy Chand. This decision follows an altercation between two boxers and their cornermen during last month’s event, which resulted in the suspension of two leading boxers in the country.
Chand highlighted the importance of preventing such incidents in the future. He confirmed that only registered boxers and their cornermen would be permitted in the ring on October 26. Each boxer is allowed to have one trainer and a cut man, provided they are licensed by the Boxing Commission of Fiji (BCF).
To ensure the safety of all participants and attendees, Chand reassured that significant security presence would be established at the event. “A total of 30 private security personnel, along with 25 police officers, will be on-site to maintain order and prevent any disturbances,” Chand mentioned.
He also noted that if a boxer lacks registered trainers, they will not be permitted to enter the ring. “It is essential to clarify this now; only four people will be allowed at ringside, regardless of whether a boxer purchases more tickets. However, only these four will be in the corner during the fights,” he added.
In addition, an international IBO referee will be present in Fiji to aid local officials and referees, which, according to Chand, aims to enhance the overall professionalism and safety of the event.
The South Pacific Boxing Promotions event will feature three title fights at Prince Charles Park in Nadi on October 26.
