Boxing Controversy Erupts in Fiji: Promoter Takes Legal Action!

South Pacific Boxing promoter Freddy Chand is taking legal action against the Boxing Commission of Fiji (BCF) by submitting a case to the High Court. Today, Chand provided a photo of the signed legal documents to the media in Fiji before officially handing them over to his lawyer, Roopesh Singh.

In response, Adi Narayan, a representative from the BCF, remarked that he could not comment on the matter as he has not received any formal communication from Chand or his legal team. Narayan expressed confusion, stating, “I don’t know what he’s talking about because I have not heard anything from him or his lawyers; he is always talking crazy, and I can’t comment because I don’t have anything.” He confirmed that the last interaction with Chand’s lawyers occurred in December.

This ongoing situation is set against the backdrop of a recent investigation triggered by the tragic death of boxer Ubayd Haider, who collapsed during a fight on October 26. The BCF suspended the South Pacific Boxing Promotion and Chand’s promoter license after concerns about the safety measures in place during events they promoted were raised. Eroni Loganimoce of the BCF highlighted the need for strict adherence to safety protocols following the incident, emphasizing the commission’s commitment to ensuring the welfare of boxers.

Additionally, excitement is brewing for the upcoming Ultimate Showdown event hosted by Bluewater Boxing Promotion this Saturday at the Vodafone Arena in Suva, which will be available for overseas viewers via streaming on viti.plus.

This narrative reflects the ongoing challenges within the boxing community in Fiji but also highlights a commitment to prioritizing athlete safety. As the legal proceedings unfold, the Boxing Commission has an opportunity to address systemic issues while ensuring the future of the sport in Fiji remains positive and secure. Continued dialogue and adherence to safety regulations can pave the way for a more controlled and supportive boxing environment.
