Jese Saukuru, the Minister for Youth and Sports, expressed heartfelt sentiments during the eulogy of the late boxer, Ubayd Haider, who tragically passed away following a bout. At a ceremony held at the FMF gymnasium, Minister Saukuru reflected on the profound impact that Haider had on those around him, describing him as not just a talented athlete but also an integral part of many lives as a son, brother, father, and friend.

In his emotional tribute, Saukuru emphasized the love Haider had for boxing, a passion that defined his existence. He shared a message of hope, stating, “May we find peace in the knowledge that he belongs to the Lord,” and prayed for comfort for Haider’s family, assuring them that he would always be remembered by those he inspired.

Ubayd Haider, previously known as Nathan Singh, was 25 years old when he faced a loss by TKO against Australia’s Runqi during their IBO Asia Pacific Super Featherweight title fight on October 26. Following the match, Haider suffered medical complications and was admitted to Lautoka Aspen Hospital, where he later passed away.

This tragic moment serves as a reminder of the risks in sports and the importance of cherishing the time spent with loved ones. The outpouring of support and shared memories underscores the legacy Haider leaves behind, as many remember him for his skills and the joy he brought into their lives.

This event highlights the strength of community and the lasting impression individuals can leave on others, showcasing how the spirit of a beloved athlete endures even after their passing.
