Bowling Champions Crowned Amid Rain at Raj Charan Tournament

The Raj Charan National Open Singles bowling tournament concluded yesterday afternoon at the Suva Bowling Club, with light rain falling during the event.

In the men’s final, Rajinesh Prasad emerged victorious over Michael Fong with a score of 21-15, while Sheryl Edwards secured the women’s title by narrowly defeating Litia Tikoisuva 21-20.

Despite the adverse weather conditions, the tournament advanced without significant disruption, with overcast skies and light rain accompanying the players in the afternoon.

Phillip Lacey, president of the Suva Bowling Club, expressed satisfaction with the competition’s progression, noting that the seasoned bowlers handled the challenges well, although the less experienced participants faced more difficulties.

“The competition has been strong; we’ve seen excellent bowls and it’s encouraging to see experienced players managing it well,” Lacey stated.

The weather on the day of the finals differed significantly from Saturday’s opening, which saw only overcast skies and mild winds for the bowlers.

In earlier comments on Saturday, Lacey emphasized the tournament’s importance, as the winners would have a chance to represent Fiji in bowling championships in Australia or New Zealand.

“The skills displayed during the competition indicate that Fiji has a strong potential to perform well internationally,” he remarked.
