George Bose is striving to gain recognition in the highly competitive realm of rugby sevens, guided by a commitment to overcome the obstacles he encounters. This week, he participated in a training session with the Fiji Airways men’s sevens squad at the High-Performance Unit gym in Laucala Bay, Suva.

Bose, hailing from Draiba, Nadroga, is not new to the sevens scene; he was part of the squad under former coach Ben Gollings last season. Despite being included in the current training lineup, Bose reflected on the many challenges he has faced throughout his journey.

“It isn’t easy, especially making it into camp, but at the end of it, it’s all about continuing to persevere and keep on going,” he said. One of the significant challenges for Bose has been adapting to the unique dynamics of the sevens game, which differs from his experiences in club rugby. “I had to adjust to the flow of the (sevens) team from what I was used to in the club, and there were many changes I had to make in terms of training daily,” he explained.

Bose’s aspirations include securing an international contract, and he expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of his family throughout his endeavors. His recent participation in the BLK Lavidi team at the Fiji Bitter Kadavu 7s attracted the attention of Fiji 7s head coach Osea Kolinisau, who subsequently welcomed him into the training camp.

Bose’s story is a testament to resilience and determination. His journey illustrates that dedication and support can help individuals rise above challenges, providing hope and inspiration to aspiring athletes everywhere.

In summary, George Bose’s commitment to overcoming challenges in rugby sevens — bolstered by family support and a recent opportunity brought forth by his performance in club rugby — places him on a hopeful path towards achieving his goals on the international stage.
