Books, Change, and Community: A New Chapter for Vitogo Village

Social Innovation Fiji (SIF) has made a generous donation of library books to the village of Vitogo in Lautoka. The organization consists of Japanese university and high school students based in Lautoka, focusing on projects aimed at resolving social issues within communities.

Akifumi Kawakami, the director of the foundation, emphasized the group’s commitment to finding innovative solutions for local social challenges. He stated, “Our organization’s main goal is to solve social issues in the country, and currently, we are targeting an environmental program that addresses waste management.”

The initiative to donate books was spearheaded by one of the students, who purchased second-hand books for the village library. The goal is to establish a book exchange system where residents can bring books they have finished and swap them for new ones, promoting a culture of reading while preventing the unnecessary disposal of books.

Villager Reijieli Nasilasila expressed appreciation for the donation, noting that the books would serve as an important resource for the education of their children.
