In March 1984, Indian entertainers including disco and cabaret dancer Kalpana Iyer, screen villain Ranjeet, and musical legend Bappi Lahiri made their way to Fiji for a highly anticipated performance. As reported in a local article on March 12, over 350 fans eagerly gathered at Nausori Airport, showering the stars with cheers and garlands upon their arrival.
The entertainers faced a delay at Nadi Airport, where they had spent the night, leading to fans waiting for more than four hours to welcome them. Iyer expressed that their visit was significant as she hoped the group would leave a positive impression and enjoy the satisfaction of entertaining their audience.
“Every member of the group is crucial, and we need everyone’s support for a successful show,” she stated to the media. Iyer shared her fondness for Fiji, noting similarities with her homeland, including the food and the local accent.
“Being here makes me feel connected to home. When I visit places like Fiji, I take pride in my Indian heritage,” she added. Iyer mentioned her commitment to a stellar performance, while also expressing interest in exploring some of Fiji during her stay.
