Bokobuka, the reigning champions of the Siga Damu a Vanua championship shield in the senior premier division, anticipates a more challenging competition in the upcoming season. The team achieved a notable victory over Police, winning 28-18 at Subrail Park in Labasa, which secured their championship title.
During a recent thanksgiving service, coach Viliame Maiono expressed the team’s commitment to stepping up their discipline as they prepare to defend their title. He emphasized that success would require significant sacrifices from the players, both physical and mental, to meet the heightened competition expected in the coming season. “We thank the Lord Almighty for giving us the strength,” Maiono stated.
Maiono also addressed some of the challenges faced during the previous season, particularly the availability of team members, many of whom were stationed in various locations including Nabouwalu, Savusavu, and Seaqaqa, which sometimes affected participation on match days. To solve this issue, they adapted by bringing in additional players to ensure a full team.
Another challenge highlighted by the coach was the availability of sufficient equipment. The team is actively seeking to acquire the necessary gear, with hopes to have this resolved by 2025.
Looking ahead, Maiono emphasized their readiness to tackle whatever challenges the next season may bring, showcasing a strong sense of teamwork and resilience.
Overall, Bokobuka’s determination to improve and adapt indicates a bright future for the team as they strive to maintain their championship status in an increasingly competitive environment.
