Residents of Newtown, Cuvu, Nadroga are in shock after the body of a community member was discovered floating in the Cuvu River yesterday. The deceased, Ravnit Dass, a 32-year-old mechanic, was found by two farmers working on their plantations adjacent to the river.
Rattan Kumar, Ravnit’s 66-year-old father, recounted their last interaction. “He came home on Monday night around 7 p.m., dropped off his tools, and mentioned he was heading to a friend’s house. That was the last I heard from him until today when his body was found,” Kumar said.
Nadroga Navosa Advisory Council Chairman Subrail Narayan expressed the community’s sense of loss. “He used to fix my vehicle. He was intelligent, hardworking, and had a good heart,” Narayan remarked.
Police spokesperson Wame Bautolu stated that authorities were alerted around midday. “Police managed to identify the male deceased, and further details will be revealed as the investigation continues,” Bautolu said.
Funeral arrangements will proceed following a post-mortem examination.
