In celebration of Fiji Day, market vendors in Suva donned blue attire to mark the nation’s 54th independence anniversary. Tourists arriving via cruise ship at Suva Port participated in the festivities, engaging in dancing and enjoying various entertainment options.
During the event, Suva City Council chair Tevita Boseiwaqa emphasized the council’s collaboration with stakeholders to meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and ensure that no Fijian is left behind. “We aim to foster collaboration, as independence signifies unity to us,” Mr. Boseiwaqa stated. “That’s why we chose to hold the event at the Suva Market, to involve the grassroots community.”
Ilisapeci Viriki, the general secretary of the Suva United Market Vendor Association, expressed gratitude to the Suva City Council for sponsoring the event. “This was organized at the last minute, but with the assistance of council workers, we managed to successfully execute the event with decorations and live entertainment.”
The primary Fiji Day celebrations are set to take place tomorrow at Labasa’s Subrail Park, where President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere will officiate.
