Bloc of 16: The Future of a New Political Party?

Members of the Bloc of 16 in Parliament have the option to establish a political party, as long as they adhere to the procedures outlined in the Political Parties Act. Independent MP Jone Usamate expressed this possibility during an interview on The Lens@177.

“Anyone can form a political party in accordance with the Political Parties Act,” he stated. “If they follow the proper process, it can certainly be done. There are established ways to achieve this under the law.”

Usamate emphasized the group’s commitment to self-discipline and shared values, believing that this approach will help maintain focus and unity among members of the Bloc of 16.

When questioned about the potential for another split within the Bloc, Usamate acknowledged that the future is uncertain. “It’s speculation, but who knows? Today the sun rises at six; tomorrow it might be near eight. You never know what the future holds. Our goal is to keep the group together as much as possible.”

He also reaffirmed the group’s support for their leader, Inia Seruiratu.
