Bloc of 16: Political Party on the Horizon?

Members of the Bloc of 16 in Parliament have the option to establish a political party, provided they adhere to the guidelines set forth in the Political Parties Act.

Independent MP Jone Usamate shared this insight during an interview on The Lens@177. He affirmed that forming a political party is open to anyone who follows the necessary procedures outlined in the legislation.

“If they go through the process, they can do that. There are indeed methods to accomplish this according to the requirements of the law,” he said. Usamate emphasized the Bloc’s commitment to maintaining discipline and reaching a consensus on shared values to foster unity.

When queried about the potential for another division within the Bloc of 16, Mr. Usamate acknowledged the unpredictability of the future. “Who knows? It’s all speculation, but it’s possible. Today, the sun rises at six; tomorrow it might be closer to eight. You never know what will happen. However, we strive to keep the group intact as best as we can.”

Usamate confirmed that the members of the Bloc have reaffirmed Inia Seruiratu as their leader.
